Tips for Taking Care of a Small Lawn

Keep these small lawn maintenance tips in mind if you’re the kind of person whose lawn is small-yet-tidy!

There is a big change going on in America. While huge plots of land and the extravagant homes that went with them once dominated the market, many these days are far more interested in smaller homes and yes, smaller lawns too. Thankfully, this means that taking care of your small lawn is easier than ever. There are tons of tools, products, and services out there that are designed to help you care for your small lawn. Keep these small lawn maintenance tips in mind if you’re the kind of person whose lawn is small-yet-tidy!

Use the Right Tools

No need to haul out some huge power mower to get your mowing done. Instead, look for a reel-action push mower, which is usually recommended for lawns that are 1,000 square feet or less. They’re light and easy to store, meaning you can hang one up wherever you’ve got the extra space and keep it out of the way. Look for one with adjustable mowing heights that can do between 2.5 and 3 inches.

Feed and Seeding

These days, there are a huge number of spreaders out there for sale. Most of them will get the job done but not all of them are going to do so in the most practical way. Instead, you’re going to need to look around for one specifically designed with a focus on a small lawn like yours. These allow you to easily apply seeds and lawn food in small areas, so make sure you ask a pro to help you get the right tool for the job.

Learn to Landscape

You may initially feel like your small lawn leaves you feeling confined by the possibilities since there’s less space to work with, but some of the best landscapes out there are actually fairly small lawns. By having little space available, it forces you to think about how to use that space in the best possible way. Plus, adding shrubs or nice planters can help act as a focal point that helps your lawn feel larger than it really is. If making your lawn seem larger is appealing, you could tuck a mirror somewhere in your landscape to help create that illusion. By tapping into your imagination, you can find the best ways to work with your small lawn and make something that feels grand, even if it’s in a relatively small physical space.
